Off-the-shelf hunts send children to a “grandfather clock” or a “garden gate” you might not have. A personalised hunt starts from your home instead, and from the party you're actually throwing.
- Your rooms and furniture: every clue points to something you named, like the sofa, the bookshelf or the shoe rack.
- The ages: puzzles are pitched between the youngest and the oldest child, from 3 to 14.
- The group: the number of children and how long you want it to last, from 15 to 90 minutes.
- The story: pirates, detectives or space, with a final treasure where you choose to hide it.
- Their interests: mention in the notes what the birthday child is into, and the story works it in.
Before and after: a generic clue vs a custom one
A typical free printable says: “Look where we keep the books.” It works anywhere, which is exactly why it feels like it was made for nobody.
Our sample below, The Mystery of the Dino Football Cup, was made for a detective party for 8- to 10-year-olds whose birthday child loves dinosaurs and football. The league cup has vanished just before kickoff, strange three-toed football boots have left marks all over headquarters, a dinosaur badge waits in the wardrobe and the matchday has to be put back in order. Same idea, but it is their party.
How your custom treasure hunt is made
You answer a few questions; Captain Clue writes the hunt; you check it and change anything before you play.
- Tell us the ages, number of children, theme and time.
- Add your rooms and tap the things where clues can hide, or type your own.
- See the treasure map and every clue card for free. Rewrite a riddle, swap a puzzle or reorder the clues.
- Pick how you want to play, hide the cards using the setup guide, and start the hunt.

One price per adventure, paid once. No subscription. Creating and previewing your hunt is free, and if it doesn't work for your party you can ask for a full refund within 14 days.
- Paper kit, €9: print and play. Clue cards, treasure map, host guide and answer key as one PDF.
- Party pack, €19: the paper kit plus the live phone game. Kids join with a QR code, no app or account, and you follow every team on the host dashboard. Play it as often as you like.
Personal, without personal data
A hunt can feel made-to-measure without us knowing who your child is. We never ask for children's names, photos or your address. Places in a hunt are symbolic (“under the sofa cushions”), and text that looks like an address is rejected.
In the phone game, players pick a character and an optional fun crew name, not their real name. There are no accounts for children and no ads.
For birthdays and every other occasion
Most families use it for a birthday party at home, but a custom hunt works just as well for a family day, a rainy afternoon, a sleepover, Christmas morning or a playdate. Small flat or house with a garden: you choose the rooms, so it fits the space you have.
